Section 2-Subject of this Act

The Act aims to provide a balanced framework for cooperative and productive workplace relationships that promotes national economic prosperity and social inclusion for all Australians:

  1. Provide workplace relations laws that are fair to working Australians, flexible to businesses, promote productivity and economic growth for Australia’s future economic prosperity, and take into account Australia’s international labor obligations; And
  2. Ensuring the guaranteed protection of fair, reasonable, and enforceable minimum terms and conditions through national employment standards, modern awards, and national minimum wage directives; And
  3. Ensure that a guaranteed safety net of fair, reasonable, and enforceable minimum wages and conditions is no longer less than the creation of any statutory personal employment contract, should such contracts ever form part of a fair workplace relationship; And
  4. Helping employees balance their work and family responsibilities by providing flexible work arrangements; And
  5. Prevent discrimination by implementing fairness and representation at work and recognizing the right to freedom of association and representation, protect against unfair treatment and discrimination, provide accessible and effective procedures for the resolution of complaints and disputes, and effective compliance provide mechanism; And
  6. Achieving productivity and fairness by emphasizing enterprise-wide collective bargaining through simple goodwill bargaining obligations and clear rules governing industrial action; And
  7. Recognizing the special circumstances of small and medium enterprises.
