Correctional Services Application Forms 2022 PDF – Overview

The training includes theoretical and practical training on contribution to the rehabilitation of prisoners. As an apprentice, you will learn to do this through inhumane reform and human development, safe custody, or supervised social reform.

This training in corrective services gives you the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge, acceptable workplace behavior, and the required attitude to corrective services. Learners earn a scholarship of R3 500-00 per month during the period of their studies.

Correctional Services Learnership Requirements

The program is open to South Africans who have a Grade 12/Standard 10 Certificate South Africans who have completed the National Certificate in Professional Studies (NQF Level 4) Applicants who have completed the NQF Further Education and Training Certificate (Level 4) It is important to note that additional qualifications will not be used as a factor for stipend payment or future remuneration purposes.

Additionally, interested applicants must be South African: between the ages of 21-35 years with a strong character law-abiding civil and without a criminal record, Applicants must be willing to be subject to selection processes conducted by DCS. Applicants should also prepare for physical training and firearms training conducted by DCS (Department of Correctional Services). They must also be prepared to disclose information and verify their documents, qualifications, and citizenship.

You must be between 21 and 35 years old
Applicants should not have a criminal record (if prosecuted, you must provide full information when applying).
You must have a strong character
Preference will be given to applicants who have additional qualifications, such as a certificate in trade or occupation, a diploma or degree in security/repair. Such additional qualifications are not taken into account when paying the scholarship paid to students during their studies or their future salary.

FET Certificate for Correctional Services in DCS

It is results-based learning and is based on a legally binding agreement between the learner, the employer, and the service provider.

The training program is for one year (12 months) and consists of:

Theory

About 30% of the training will consist of theory. This training will take place at an accredited DCS College to be designated by the Department.

* Theoretical training will include intensive firearm training, self-defense, and physical fitness.
* These courses are compulsory, which means you will stay in college full time.
* Successful applicants receive free accommodation, meals, uniforms (outerwear and tracksuit), and all training materials during training.

On-the-job training

The remaining 70% of the training will be practical training in practice at correctional and social reintegration centers/units.

• This part of the training will include responsibilities related to the rehabilitation and safety of offenders.
• During this training phase, students still receive a monthly scholarship but are responsible for their own accommodation, meals, and transport.
• The correctional services unit does not pay home allowance, housing subsidy, pension fund, medical care, emergency allowance, or overtime during training.
