Phantom Time Hypothesis

Dear reader, if you are searching for Phantom Time Hypothesis PDF and you are unable to find it anywhere then don’t worry you are on the right page. The Phantom Time Hypothesis is a historical conspiracy theory propounded by Herbert Illig. First published in 1991, it postulated a conspiracy by Holy Roman Emperor Otto III, Pope Sylvester II, and Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII to retrospectively develop the Anno Domini dating system and place them in AD. , and rewrite history to legitimize Otto’s claim to the Holy Roman Empire.

Illig believed this was achieved by altering, misrepresenting, and fabricating documentary and physical evidence. According to this scenario, the entire Carolingian period, including the figure of Charlemagne, is a myth, adding 297 years (AD 614–911) to the “Phantom Time” of the Early Middle Ages.

Illig was born in 1947 in Wohenstrauss, Bavaria. He was active in Emmanuel Velikovsky, the Gesellschaft zur Reconstruction der Menschits- und Naturgschichte, a society devoted to catastrophe and historical revisionism. From 1989 to 1994 he was editor of the magazine Worzeit-Frühzeit-Gegenwart. Since 1995, he has worked as a publisher and editor under his own publishing house, Mantis-Verlag, and has published his own magazine, Zeitensprunge (English: Leaps in Time). In addition to his publications on revised chronology, he has edited the works of Akon Friedel.

Illig published various proposals for a revised chronology of prehistory and ancient Egypt, before focusing on the early Middle Ages. His proposals received major coverage in the German popular media in the 1990s. His 1996 Das Erfunden Mittelalter (English: The Invented Middle Ages) received scholarly rebuttals but was dismissed by historians as fundamentally flawed. In 1997, the journal Ethik und Sozialwissenschaften provided a forum for a critical discussion of Illig’s proposal, with several historians commenting on its various aspects. After 1997, Illig‘s ideas received little scholarly reception, although they continued to be discussed in the German popular media as pseudohistory. Illig continued to publish the “phantom time hypothesis” until at least 2013. Also in 2013, German Renaissance master Anton Pilgram published on an unrelated topic of art history, but again proposed a revision of the traditional chronology and argued for its abolition. The Art Historical Style of Behaviorism.
