The University Grants Commission (UGC) has proclaimed 24 universities in India as fake and these 24 universities have not been assigned to confer any degree.

Twenty-four “self-declared” institutions have been declared fake by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and two others have been found to be violating norms. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of fake universities (eight). Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Maharashtra have one fake university each.
